bamboo
Bamboo is nature’s most sustainable resource, grown without pesticides or
chemicals. It’s commonly known that bamboo can thrive naturally without
any pesticides. Scientists have found that bamboo owns a unique anti-bacterial
component which makes it immune to pests or pathogens. This substance combines
with bamboo cellulose molecules tightly all along during the process of being
produced into bamboo fiber.
Bamboo fiber has natural functions of anti-bacteria, bacteria stasis and
deodorization. It is validated by Japan Textile Inspection Association that even
after 50 times of washing, bamboo fabric still possesses excellent anti bacterial
function. Bamboo fibers natural anti-bacterial function differs greatly from
chemical antimicrobial, which can cause skin allergies when added to apparel.
The spinning process makes bamboo softer than cotton, which feels similar to silk
or cashmere. The softness holds up after countless washes.
Surfmonk’s lucious velour terry is 70% bamboo, 30% cotton. Our weaving process

Why Eco Fibers

Wednesday, April 21, 2010

The West has only recently discovered bamboo, which has been a staple in the rest of the world for centuries. It's used in thousands of ways for everything from housing (and estimated one billion people live in bamboo homes) to food to paper. In China the plant is known as "friend of the people". And not only is it versatile,, it's green, environmentally speaking (it is a grass, after all). In nature, bamboo filters heavy metals from groundwater and removes four times more carbon dioxide from the air than an equivalent-size stand of trees. And it returns more oxygen to the air, according to a Dutch scientist's research.

Now Western entrepreneurs are partnering with Chinese bamboo producers to create a variety of products, Bamboo fiber is being championed as a good material for clothes because it is light and breathable.
